Welcome
Welcome to our Assessment Resources for Faculty LibGuide!
In collaboration, the Office of Academic Affairs, the Excellence in Teaching Committee, and various Department Chairs and Faculty have assembled this collection of useful resources. Rather than a comprehensive list of everything out there on assessment (there are plenty of those on the web!), we've brought together here the resources that are best matched to assessment at Curry College.
Please enjoy, and let us know if you have any ideas for additional resources you would like to see on this page.

Student Learning Outcomes
In 2009-10, Curry Faculty will continue to develop clear and concise learning outcomes for majors, concentrations, minors, and programs. We will also begin to examine curricula for alignment with outcomes by mapping where learning outcomes are introduced, emphasized or practiced, and mastered or demonstrated. The resources below address these important next steps in our institution-wide assessment efforts.
- One-page Intro A brief explanation of learning outcomes, including why they are helpful, from Camosun College in British Columbia.
- Student learning outcomes (SLOs): A faculty resource on development and assessment From the University of Washington, a comprehensive guide for "departments and faculty on designing and using student learning outcomes (SLO's)." Highly recommended and easy to navigate!
- Learning Outcomes: Bowling Green State University Recommended by Peggy Maki during our Spring 2009 Assessment Workshop at Curry, these examples of Department and Program Outcomes published by Bowling Green are clear, concise, measurable, and reflective of their institutional mission.
- Primer on Curriculum Mapping From the University of Connecticut, an extensive primer on assessment with a very helpful section on curriculum mapping.
Assessment Strategies and Methods
With learning outcomes in hand, departments and programs will begin implementing focused assessments to answer key questions about student learning. The links below offer a variety of methods and techniques, the choice of which depends on the kinds of questions identified as priorities by each discipline, department, or program. The resources under Student Learning Outcomes also have sections on assessment methods, tools, and techniques.
- Assessment Tools (from the Bridgewater State College Assessment Guidebook) A concise overview of both direct and indirect assessment tools and techniques, with strengths/weaknesses and examples of each.
